Review
I don't think I can properly praise J.W. Webb's writing in"Shattered Crown". There wasnot a single moment that I was not hooked in his story, his descriptions were sufficientbut not boring, his characters well painted, the dialogues witty and the banters betweenthe various characters authentic and amusing. The narrative would be beautiful and poeticin nature, other times would be badass and evil. Great mix. There was a little romance, but the women (Ariane) in this novel were not mere tools as is the case in many fantasies.A large and dynamic cast of characters almost overshadow the leads, but still addedsome perspective and completed the spectacular world Mr. Webb created. On to the next!(4 stars) Cory Banyan-- Goodreads

When I read a great fantasy novel, to me it is about more than world building and lore, but the strength in the characterization. As usual, Webb delivers with lovable and quirky rogue heroes, but the supporting characters are also really well developed and all of them add something to the plot, be they good or bad. There is not one that I thought was wasted or surplus to requirements. If you are looking for some well written traditional fantasy that is packed full of action, epic locations and just about everything in-between then I would highly recommend checking this book out. You needn't have read the first one in the series to follow this one (Gol), but I recommend doing so as it too is a really fun read and just perfect for a little bit of escapism. It has gone straight onto my all-time favorites list and I cannot wait to read the rest of the Legends of Ansu series. (5 stars) Cam Jones-- Goodreads.

"Shattered Crown" by J.W. Webb was awesome!! It is set up more like a classic fantasy although it's not exactly as traditional as, say, The Belgariad. It's fairly lighthearted and fun, with just the right dose of action, magic, danger, antagonists to despise and a main character that I can really get behind. And of course a wizard. What can I say, well-written fantasy tropes can be just plain fun sometimes! If you are into high fantasy, this is definitely a book you should read. And if you're not, it's an excellent opportunity to dive in the world of magic and epic battles. If I could give "The Shattered Crown" more than 5 stars, I would. Because it is that good. (5 stars) Gillian Hancock-- Goodreads.

This is the second book I've read in the Legends of Ansu by J.W. Webb. I liked this one better than the first-- it was easy to read, not overly complicated, just a great story written without dragging things out... It's one of the those books you pick up and just finish before you realized it's over, like eating comfort food, the simplicity, yet action packed pages  and witty dialogue were great. I enjoyed the positive humor and lack of constant doom so many books have, if only for some brief moments as it does have its darker side. We never feel 'safe' as the threat of danger is always near, but that's what kept me so hooked. When I was finished I closed my Kindle and smiled, for it was a good read.... I'll read the rest of the series for sure. (4 stars) Anabella Johnson-- Goodreads.

"The Shattered Crown" by J.W. Webb is fast-paced, high-fantasy adventure with exciting twists and turns that keep you sat in suspense for hours! This brilliant classic good vs. evil fantasy tale is one that really impressed me, by its originality in many areas and substantial plot. Webb is an accomplished author whose creative vision and clever concoction of this whole series both breaks new ground but feels comfortingly familiar. This is a story that kept me glued to the pages for hours, lost within an interesting world that fascinated me to no end. I did feel that there was something, an element connected to the 'depth' of the world-building and substance to this creation as a whole that let it down slightly - Still a fine journey that entertained, and I will gladly read the next book, "The Lost Prince" right now! (4 stars) Claire Middleton-- Goodreads

About the Author
lost An Author's Wayward Path I was born near Doncaster England in the early sixties but later moved south to Sussex, where I lived for many years. One of my (several schools) was at Battle, a small town named after that historic conflict in 1066. You know the one, it culminated with poor Harold getting that arrow in his eye and those rude Normans invading our green and pleasant land. Growing up so close to that scene of ancient carnage awarded me a fascination for all things Dark Age. I'd fallen victim to a weird and random imagination, resulting in a love of epic stories and epic story telling. This affliction prompted me to delve deep into the worlds of Tolkien, Peake, Eddison and Moorcock. Also about this time I commenced drawing imaginary maps and inventing stories about wonderfully nasty folk, doing wonderfully nasty things, whilst pent up in gloomy unpleasant places. Then at 18 years daft, I found myself thrust deep into the Queen's Household Cavalry. How I arrived there I cannot quite recall. The result was a sharp dose of reality. But not a cure – the affliction ran deep. I left the regiment, and for a time wandered hazy through life hitting nails with hammers, sailing brigantines through southern waters, drinking venomous concoctions with venomous companions, and yes, reading lots more ghastly fantasy books. Then, during one dark winter night back in 1993, whilst parked forlorn outside a dreary inn, something profound happened. I stumbled into Corin an Fol: a moody, rather difficult individual, mooching about in a deep tangled wood (my imagination). That wood grew into a world (not as hard as it sounds when you write fantasy stuff). The world became Ansu, home to all manner of mismatched mortals and grumpy gods. Late 2001 a plot appeared through the murky trees. It found Corin lost and wandering and introduced him to some other unruly types, resulting in The Shattered Crown. This epic debut was scrawled out with biro ink on paper and still lurks somewhere close. I'm too scared to read it. But The Shattered Crown couldn't contain its characters. These were (and still are) a very rough lot. They demanded a sequel. Instead (just to show who the boss was,) I focussed on a prequel, Fall of Gol being the result. But still the characters would not leave me alone. And so started The Legends of Ansu a forthcoming series of otherworldly tales, mostly involving Corin and his friends.
